Locate the emergency procedures posted in the classroom, including fire, tornado, lockdown, and evacuation routes. Take a moment to familiarize yourself with what to do with students in case of an emergency.
Fire Alarm
Lead students out of the building in an orderly fashion. Consult the map by the classroom door for the nearest exit. Move at least 50 feet away from building. Wait for official notice that it is safe to return to the classroom.
Tornado
Lead students to an interior room/hallway according to the map by the classroom door. Stay away from windows and doors. Get down on knees with head in "cover" position. Wait for official notice that it is safe to return to the classroom.
Earth Quake
Avoid overhead objects that may fall. Get down on knees with head in "cover" position. Exit the building once the shaking stops. Wait for official notice that it is safe to return to the classroom.
Intruder
All students should be in a classroom, not in the hallways. Lock the door from the inside. Barricade access. Keep students away from windows and doors. Remain silent. Listen to public access system for further instructions. Follow A.L.I.C.E. protocols as appropriate (alert, lockdown, inform, counter, evacuate).
